thanking Chris Woodard, the FPU Military Advisor

On 28 Oct 2k10, Chaplain Sims thanking Chris Woodard, the FPU Military Advisor for serving Soldiers

STORY BEHIND today’s mugshot: Last week, I was excited to meet Chris Woodard in Nashville at the Financial Peace University (FPU) coaching conference. We had lunch together talking about cost of purchasing FPU kits. We spent a few moments on discussing ideas of how to implement the FPU class to the 57th Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs). I am hoping that if we train the NCOs that will give them the tools to have their finances more healthy. And, these NCOs will be able to mentor younger Soldiers and Families at the Squad level. And so, here is the story of how Chris and I first met.

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”– Winston Churchill.

In the Summer of 2009, I was deployed to Afghanistan with the 57th Expeditionary Signal Battalion. It didn’t take long to discover that some of my counseling with Soldiers were in the area of finance. As I was seeking counsel from my fellow Chaplains, a few mentioned FPU would be a good class to give to Soldiers increasing their financial readiness. I sent an email to Dave Ramsey’s organization inquiring about FPU. Within 48-hours, Chris Woodard responded. After a few email exchanges, I was overjoyed to learn that Dave Ramsey has generously donated 20-FPU participant kits. On behalf of the 57th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, thank you Dave Ramsey and team for giving our Soldiers and Families more financial life!
