A prayerless soul is a Christless soul.–C.H. Spurgeon.
Last Friday, I went to visit a friend of mine. And during this visit, he had a prayer meeting at his house. As everyone was praying, I was reminded of the importance of prayer. And being silent before God, I was impressed on the importance of prayer. And then I came to the realization of three profound insights: 1) God is always moved by prayer, 2) I don’t pray enough, and 3) there is a need to reenact “Pray It Forward” newsletter (during the upcoming deployment). Why is it that we forget to pray? I don’t know about you but it frustrates me that I am undisciplined in this spiritual practice (a confession, I suppose). I mean, I can remember times in my life of awesome experiences of the Presence of the Lord. And I cannot, for the life of me, offer a reasonable excuse as to why I have lost the importance of prayer. (And to top it off, I am a minister who should have this as a priority in the busyness of life). As I was leaving my friend’s house, my friend admonished me to have a prayer team during deployment. And so, I emailed a few people requesting prayer partners. And thankfully, God graciously provided several.
And so, I will leave us this thought by J.C. Ryle:
Bibles read without prayer, sermons heard without prayer, engagements to marriage without prayer, travel undertaken without prayer, homes chosen without prayer, friendships formed without prayer, the daily act of private prayer itself hurried over or gone through without heart—these are the kind of downward steps by which many a Christian descends to a condition of spiritual paralysis, or reaches the point where God allows him to have a tremendous fall.
Would you pray for the 502d Soldiers and Families? Would you consider praying for me to receive a burden to pray more? Thanks…
